Oleon launches natural-based immersion cooling fluids

Oleon, a subsidiary of Avril and a global leader in natural-based oleochemicals, has announced the launch of QloeTM, a brand dedicated to data center cooling solutions through immersion cooling.

As data consumption surges globally due to cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and edge computing, the demand for efficient, sustainable, and safe cooling methods has never been more urgent. Traditional air-cooling methods struggle to meet these demands, consuming excessive energy and driving up operational costs. Immersion cooling offers a much-needed alternative, delivering enhanced energy efficiency and superior heat management.

Oleon’s immersion cooling liquids offer good dielectric properties, material compatibility, and low viscosity, ensuring efficient heat transfer. The liquids are also biodegradable, non-toxic, and have a high flash point, making them safe for both workers and the environment.

“At Oleon, we are committed to driving innovation through sustainability,” said Maarten Trautmann, Immersion Cooling Program Lead at Oleon. “With QloeTM, we’ve created a product that not only meets the growing demands of data centers but also provides a solution that is safer for people and better for the planet. Our biobased cooling liquids lead the way in reducing the environmental impact of digital infrastructure.”

Key features of Qloe’s immersion cooling liquids:

  • Plant-Based and renewable
  • Biodegradable with zero global warming potential
  • High Flash Point for enhanced safety
  • Non-Toxic and free from respiratory or toxicological risks
  • Low Viscosity for efficient heat transfer
  • Material Compatibility to protect IT infrastructure
  • Superior Dielectric Properties for safe and reliable performance

Headquartered in Ertvelde (Belgium) and with 7 production sites in Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, and Malaysia, Oleon transforms vegetable oils and animal fats into fatty acids, glycerin, dimers, esters, and other specialties. These sustainable solutions are key ingredients used in many everyday products in markets as diverse as cosmetics, food and industrial. The company had a turnover of around 1 bn euros in 2023 and employs 1,400 people worldwide.
