Shell renews as BMW aftermarket engine oil supplier
Shell has renewed its status as BMW’s only recommended supplier for aftermarket engine oils in the UK for three more years up to the end of 2022 for all BMW Group brands; BMW, BMW i, BMW M, MINI, BMW Motorrad and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
The three-year extension will mean premium BMW engine oils manufactured by Shell will continue being available to customers at BMW’s dealer networks in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
This collaboration means Shell will continue to produce and supply BMW’s branded engine oils, which meet BMW engine specifications. These oils will feature Shell’s PurePlus a technology where base oil is produced using a patented process in which natural gas is converted to base oil, also known as gas-to-liquid (GTL) technology.
“We are honoured to work with BMW and supply them with premium engine oils featuring our technology,” said Shell Global Commercial VP Global Key Accounts, Patrick Carré. Shell noted that the motor oil industry is moving towards increased use of synthetic oils compared to mineral oils because of the improved performance benefits offered in line with stringent emission regulations and fuel efficiency demands.
Shell has over the years strengthened its presence and accessibility of its products with a global lubricants supply chain network of four base oil manufacturing plants as well as 50 lubricant and grease manufacturing sites.
